Meet BG's Vets: Dr. Nancy Stedman

Dr. Nancy Lisa Stedman

Dr. Nancy Lisa Stedman, Senior Veterinarian (Pathologist)

Busch Gardens’ veterinary pathologist, Dr. Nancy Lisa Stedman, became a veterinarian because she wanted to make a difference in the lives of both humans and animals. Dr. Stedman decided the field of pathology was the best way to really understand what disease is, and that understanding disease is the key to being able to prevent and treat it. Dr. Stedman has a significant amount of schooling and professional experience under her belt. She received both her Bachelor of Science in Avian Sciences and her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of California at Davis, and earned her PhD in Pathology from the University of Georgia. Dr. Stedman loves that she has the opportunity to work with a wide variety of species, from insects and marine invertebrates to cetaceans and elephants. It’s a great learning experience and has made her appreciate the beauty and complexity of the animal kingdom. Dr. Stedman is an avid member of various veterinary organizations such as the American Association of Zoo Veterinarians, the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the American Veterinary Medical Association, and she has been recognized as a Diplomat in the American College of Veterinary Pathologists. Not only does Dr. Stedman enjoy working with animals, she has three dogs of her own at home who, she says, “love the way I smell when I come home from work.”
