Jasiri, our little White Rhino, just celebrated her 1st Birthday! Born October 23, 2012, it has been just wonderful to watch her grow and learn about the world and learn how to be a rhino. For her 1st Birthday we gave her a little party with a pumpkin stuffed with alfalfa (a sweet type of hay). She also had presents (boxes with alfalfa in it – which is also their favorite type of hay) and a cardboard tube we painted to look like a candle.

As Busch Gardens began preparations earlier this year to transform the park into “The Dark Side of the Gardens” for its 13th annual Howl-O-Scream event this fall, the horticulture team realized that they faced a challenge:
It's hard to find heirloom pumpkins and winter squash in Tampa in October.
The first recorded container gardening dates back 3,000 years to the famous hanging gardens of Babylon and since then people have thought up many different ways to bring the outdoors closer to home.
One of these techniques, hanging baskets, originated in the Victorian age and is an excellent way to frame entrances, doorways and walkways.

There are so many new attractions and fresh adventures at Busch Gardens, some people don't realize that this park opened more than 50 years ago -- and many of the trees in the park, have been here since 1959!
