We’re “Cracking” More Superstitions at Howl-O-Scream

Step on a crack and you’ll break your mother’s back. This phrase has been chanted by kids for generations. But where does it come from? Who started it?

Before we crack into the deeper meaning of this superstition, let’s go to the movies. If you watch a Three Stooges movie, or many comedy movies with slapstick humor, the floorboards seem to keep popping up and hitting people in the face. That’s because the wood floorboards weren’t properly nailed down, so stepping on the crack of one side, could send the other side flying up into the air.
